Leaving Auckland City, we drive through rolling farmland and hilly bushclad hills across the spine of the Coromandel Peninsular to the popular holiday destination of Hahei with its beautiful beach. Here we will have lunch at a local café.
Boarding a 10 seater open zodiac, the Hahei Explorer tour is an hour long, travels up to 14kms, and takes you into coastal islands of the marine reserve, reefs, massive sea caves and bays, including the world famous Cathedral Cove. The magnificence of this natural volcanic scenery is legendary and the approach by sea, combined with an insightful yet relaxed commentary further enhances the experience. Seating only ten passengers, this small boat tour caters for all age groups and is an amazing trip.
There are countless photographic opportunities. One of the leading attractions of this extraordinary volcanic coastline is, when the tide is right, the tour visits an awesome blow-hole, venturing through a sea cave underground into a gigantic rock cylinder 80 feet high – truly a magical place!
After the excitement of the Explorer, we depart Hahei for our return trip to Auckland via Miranda, Kaiaua and Kawakawa Bay, popular birdwatching spots.
